The VA87M is the board most people mean when they say Varmilo. It's a tenkeyless with Cherry MX switches on a metal plate, a sturdy ABS case, and thick dye-sub PBT caps, and the reason people hunt for it is the art on those caps. Varmilo printed it in a long list of themes, from Panda and Chicken Dinner to Beijing Opera and CMYK, and even an Orange and White with Korean Hangul legends. The board itself is plain. There's no software and no macros, and RTINGS noted that a few keys don't work on macOS or Linux. Varmilo's manual adds Fn shortcuts to switch to Mac mode, lock the Windows key and swap Caps Lock with Ctrl. Typing feels good, and RTINGS rated the build quality excellent. The classic VA87M is wired, and many came with white or colored LEDs. The V2 refresh, called the VEA87, added a standard USB-C cable and silicone pads inside. Versions
The VA87M is Varmilo's original Cherry MX TKL. Its V2 replacement is the VEA87, which comes with a standard USB-C cable, a two-step kickstand, north-facing LEDs, cable channels underneath and silicone pads between the PCB and plate. The VED87 is the Bluetooth V2. Boards named MA87M, VEM87 or VPM87 look the same but use Varmilo's electro-capacitive switches, and the VPT87 and APT87 are later hot-swap wireless models. Retailers listed Cherry MX Speed Silver, Clear and Silent Black alongside the usual colors.
Switches are soldered, so a bad key means a repair. Themed caps are the value, so a board with replaced or missing novelty keys is worth a lot less.

The switches are soldered to a metal plate, so a chattering key means a repair; ask for a typing test video and a short clip of the space bar, Enter, Backspace and both Shifts to check for rattle. On a themed board, compare the caps with Varmilo's photos of that theme, since replaced novelty keys take a lot off the value.
