This is the R3 without the number pad, and for most desks it's the Realforce to get. It's part of the R3 generation Topre launched in November 2021, the first with Bluetooth as well as USB. Plugged in, it runs on USB power and leaves its two AA batteries alone, and unplugged it pairs with several devices you can swap between with a key combination. APC sets each key's actuation point at 0.8, 1.5, 2.2 or 3.0mm and stores it on the board, and Topre sells key spacers that shorten the travel if you like a shallower stroke. US versions have silent Topre switches in 45g or 30g, Japanese versions also came in variable weighting, and the keycaps are dye-sublimated PBT. Mac versions have a silver top.

US tenkeyless R3 codes start R3HD, and the silver-topped Mac versions start R3HH. R3HD11 is black with 45g keys, R3HD13 black with 30g, and R3HD21 white with 45g, and a grey and blue edition came later. Japanese models also offered variable weighting. The wired-only R3S TKL (R3SD) has a fixed cable and laser-printed keys, and it's left off this page.
Topre switches are rated for tens of millions of keystrokes, so worn keys are rare. Spills, leaked AA batteries and odd APC settings from the last owner are the likely problems.

Buying guide
We'd buy from one of the three US sellers here, and $238 delivered gets an R3HH21, the silver-topped Mac version in English layout, well under the $290–410 band. There are at least 38 listed, mostly from Japan dealers whose shipping fills that band, while the US sellers ask $238–319 delivered. R3HD codes are the US layout (11 black 45g, 13 black 30g, 21 white 45g) and R3HH is the US Mac version, while R3HC and R3HG are Japanese, with a short space bar, extra keys and Japanese legends, which is the catch on the cheapest board here. Ask for the bottom label, a photo of the AA battery bay with the cover off and a video tapping the space bar and Shifts for rattle, then check the APC setting in REALFORCE CONNECT on arrival, since a past owner may have changed it. Skip the $616 R3HD11 from a 94.7% seller, about 1.9 times the $324 median.
