The tenkeyless R2 is the compact half of Topre's 2017 generation. Like the full-size R2, it brought full n-key rollover, a quicker response and the option of silent switches and APC to the Realforce line, and it fixed the R1's habit of missing very short, sharp keystrokes. It's wired only, with a fixed cable you can route out of either side or the middle. US dealers sold it in black or off-white with 55g or variable weighting, where the keys under your little fingers are lighter than the rest. Limited black and ivory editions came with silent 45g switches. The keycaps are dye-sublimated PBT, and the cable is fixed.

US dealers sold the R2 TKL in black or off-white, with 55g or variable weighting, plus limited silent 45g editions in black and ivory. Some R2 models had APC. The R2 TKL RGB has backlighting, doubleshot ABS keycaps and switch adapters for Cherry MX keycaps, so it looks different. The R3 TKL replaced it in 2021 and added Bluetooth.
Worn switches are rare on Topre boards, so the fixed cable is the part most likely to be damaged. Spills and sticky keys are the other usual trouble.

Buying guide
We'd buy the R2TL-USV-BK, the black US-layout TKL with variable weighting, at $190 delivered, right at the bottom of the $190–280 band. There are at least 34 listed, nearly all from Japan dealers, and the two US sellers here ask $218 and $326 delivered. JP in the code means the Japanese layout, with a short space bar, extra keys and Japanese legends, and US4G or JP4G is the R2 TKL RGB, which has backlighting, doubleshot ABS caps that shine with use and adapters for Cherry MX keycaps. The cable is fixed, so look along it in the photos for kinks, cuts or tape, and ask for a typing test and a video of the space bar going down evenly at both ends. Skip the ivory PFU Limited Edition at $713, a Japanese-layout board at about 3.3 times the $218 median.

The lowest delivered R2 TKL at $172, an R2TLS-JP4-BK with silent keys, but it's the Japanese layout and the photo shows only the box. Buy it only if you're fine with JIS, and ask for photos of the board and cable.
