The V1 is Keychron's plastic take on its aluminum Q1. It arrived in 2022 with the same 75% layout, hot-swap sockets for 3- and 5-pin MX switches, screw-in stabilizers, south-facing RGB and native QMK and VIA support, all in a solid ABS case. Keychron's own comparison spells out the trade. The V1 is tray mounted where the Q1 is double-gasket mounted, its case is ABS where the Q1's is CNC-machined aluminum, and it gets adjustable feet the Q1 doesn't have. Fully assembled boards came with Keychron K Pro switches and double-shot PBT keycaps in OSA profile. You'll see translucent Frosted Black, which shows off the PCB, plus Carbon Black and Shell White, with or without the knob. Keychron also sold a barebone kit with no switches or keycaps, so a used V1 can carry whatever parts its first owner picked. That's fine, as long as the listing says what's in it.

Which Keychron V1 is it?
Keychron sold the V1 fully assembled or as a barebone kit with no switches or keycaps, each with or without a rotary knob. Cases came in translucent Frosted Black, Carbon Black and Shell White. ISO boards shipped with shine-through ABS keycaps instead of double-shot PBT. The V1 Max (wireless), V1 8K, V1 Ultra 8K and V1 HE are later, different boards, and the Q1 is the aluminum, gasket-mounted sibling.
What to check
Most problems on a used V1 come from the first owner, since switches get swapped and a crooked one can leave a key dead. A key that double-types usually needs a fresh switch, which is Keychron's own first fix on its hot-swap boards.
01Switches: Ask the seller which switches are fitted and whether they're the stock Keychron K Pro. Barebone kits shipped with none, so the listing should name what's in it.
02Knob: Check the photos for the rotary knob if you want one. Knob and no-knob V1s were sold side by side, so the photos are your proof.
03Dead keys: Ask for a short typing test video at keyboardtester.com or similar. Every key should register once per press.
04Stabilizers: Ask for a video of the space bar, Enter, Backspace and Shift pressed at both ends. They should sound even, with no rattle or tick.
05Keycaps: Look at the keycaps in the photos with light glancing off them. Stock double-shot PBT stays matte, so shiny caps mean a swapped set.
06Firmware: On arrival, open VIA or the Keychron Launcher in a browser. The board should be recognized and let you remap a key.

Buying guide
Which one to buy
§ Oct 14, 2026
We'd buy the V1 with brown switches at $43 delivered from a 100% US seller, about half the $81 median, with the box in its photo. There are at least 27 for sale and most ask $55–120 delivered, with used US boards at $43–170, boards titled new at $84–103 and Japan dealers at $214–255. Keychron sold the V1 as a barebone kit too, and several here have no switches or caps (one titled only by its color, two from a seller at 91.7%), so read the photos and only buy one if you already have switches and keycaps. On a complete board, ask which switches are fitted, for a keyboardtester.com video with every key and a clip of the space bar and Enter, and look for shine on the caps, since stock double-shot PBT stays matte. This page is the wired V1, not the wireless V1 Max, and we'd skip the $255 JIS board from Japan and the $160 custom from a zero-feedback seller.
