The K2 followed Keychron's low-profile K1 onto Kickstarter in April 2019, this time with full-height switches. It's an 84-key, 75% board with a Mac-style media row, keycaps for both macOS and Windows in the box, and a 4000 mAh battery Keychron billed as the largest seen in a mechanical keyboard. It pairs with three devices over Bluetooth and runs wired over USB-C. Version 2 is the one you'll find most, with Bluetooth 5.1 and a long run of switch options. There were soldered Gateron G Pro boards, a hot-swappable model whose sockets take most 3- and 5-pin MX switches, later Keychron Super switches, and non-backlit boards with Keychron's own switches, each in a plastic or aluminum frame. Stock keycaps are ABS, and Keychron itself says they'll go greasy with use. A Version 3 arrived in 2025 with QMK, Bluetooth 5.2 and double-shot PBT caps. The K2 Pro, K2 Max and K2 HE are separate keyboards.

Which Keychron K2 is it?
Keychron publishes separate firmware for K2 Version 1 and Version 2. Version 2 boards were sold with soldered Gateron G Pro switches, as a hot-swappable model with Gateron G Pro switches that takes most 3- and 5-pin MX switches, and later with Keychron Super switches. Non-backlit boards used Keychron's own mechanical switches. Each came with a plastic or aluminum frame. Version 3 (2025) adds QMK, Bluetooth 5.2 and double-shot PBT keycaps. The K2 Pro, K2 Max, K2 HE and K2 Ultra 8K are different boards.
What to check
The stock ABS keycaps go greasy and shiny, which Keychron calls normal wear. Keychron's support also lists a squeaky left Shift, where the stabilizer seat rubs the aluminum plate, and flashing the wrong firmware file can leave a K2 dead.
01Hot-swap or soldered: Ask for a photo of one switch lifted out with a switch puller. On the hot-swap K2 it comes straight out, while a soldered board's switches won't budge.
02Version: Ask the seller which version it is and to send a photo of the box or underside label if they have it. Version 3 boards support QMK and earlier ones don't.
03Left Shift: Ask for a video pressing the left Shift, space bar and Enter. They should sound clean, with no squeak or rattle.
04Keycap shine: Look at the space bar and home-row caps in the photos under light. Matte is ideal, and shiny ABS is normal wear a new set fixes.
05Battery: Ask the seller how many days a charge lasts with the backlight off. Keychron rates a new K2 at up to 240 hours, so a day or two means a tired battery.
06Bluetooth: Ask the seller to pair it with a phone and type a sentence. It should connect quickly and type without dropped letters.
07Firmware: Ask whether the firmware was ever reflashed. Keychron makes different files for each K2 version, and the wrong one can stop the board working.

Which one to buy
§ Oct 14, 2026
We'd buy the K2 titled works at $49 delivered from a 99.1% seller, or the Version 3 with Keychron Super Brown switches and PBT caps at $49 with free shipping, since Version 3 adds QMK and caps that won't go shiny. There are at least 111 for sale and most complete used boards ask $50–80 delivered, while Japan dealers ask $142–204, often for JIS boards with a short space bar and Japanese legends. The K2 came both soldered and hot-swap, so believe hot-swap only when the title says it, because a chattering switch on a soldered board is a desoldering job. Ask how many days a charge lasts with the backlight off (Keychron rates it up to 240 hours), for a keyboardtester.com video with every key, and for a photo of the space bar and home row under light, since the stock ABS caps go shiny. Make sure the USB-C cable comes with it, since one board here is titled without it, and skip zero-feedback sellers.
