The FC980M fits a number pad into a board not much wider than a tenkeyless. Leopold says it introduced the 980 layout in 2016. The 98 keys sit in the compact 1800 arrangement, where the arrows, navigation keys and number pad are packed together with no gaps between the blocks. That keeps your mouse closer, though the arrows and Delete aren't quite where a full-size board puts them. The rest is standard Leopold. Cherry MX switches sit on a two-layer FR-4 board in a 1.1 kg plastic case, with four DIP switches and a detachable 1.8 m Mini-USB cable from Hirose that can leave the case left, right or center. Caps are doubleshot PBT. Switches have run from Blue, Brown, Red and Black to Silent Red, Clear and Speed Silver. If you want the same layout with Topre, that's the FC980C, and BT on the end means the Bluetooth FC980MBT.

Versions
The FC980C is the same 98-key layout with Topre switches, made by Topre in Japan. The FC980MBT is the Bluetooth version with a USB-C port. Wired FC980M editions include PD, with Leopold's low-profile doubleshot PBT caps, and the Vapor colorway sold by Mechanical Keyboards with Cherry-profile doubleshot caps.
Leopold says its wire stabilizers can feel slightly mushy or scratchy and that switch springs can ping, and it doesn't count either as a defect. The detachable Mini-USB cable is easy to lose, though any Mini-USB data cable fits.

Buying guide
Only one FC980M is listed, so its $290 delivered price isn't a market read. It's a gray and black US-layout board with Cherry MX Red switches, titled used and tested, from a Japan dealer at 98.1% feedback with $60 of the price in shipping. The photo shows the Mini-USB cable and some aftermarket caps, a printed space bar and orange keys by the arrows, so ask whether the stock Leopold caps come too. Ask for a video tapping the space bar, both Enter keys and the Shifts for rattle, and read the label underneath for FC980M, since FC980C is the Topre version and FC980MBT is Bluetooth.
